DINNER AT THE FIREHOUSE IN SUPPORT OF THE BURN INSTITUTE

March 2nd was the Second Annual “Dinner at the Firehouse”, in support of the Jerry and Carolyn Davee Fund and The Burn Institute. Once again, the local firefighters cooked and served a wonderful Santa Margarita style barbeque dinner to more than 80 invited guests.

The purpose of the evening was to continue to raise the awareness of the work of The Burn Institute in San Diego County. The Burn Institute is a nonprofit health agency dedicated to reducing the number of burn injuries and deaths in San Diego, Imperial, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Founded in 1972, one of the Institute’s first accomplishments was to help establish the UCSD Regional Burn Center. Today, the Burn Institute continues to: reach thousands of children and adults each year with lifesaving fire and burn prevention education; fund vital burn research and treatment; and conduct burn survivor support programs that help children and adults cope with the devastating psychological and physical effects of their injuries.

Did you know that there are more than 300 people each year who are treated at the UCSD Regional Burn Center, only one of 60 certified regional burn centers in the United States?

The keynote speakers for the evening were Jerry and Carolyn Davee. Jerry is a burn survivor himself, and since his accident nearly 35 years ago, he and Carolyn have devoted their lives to supporting the work of The Burn Institute.

The Jerry and Carolyn Davee Fund was established at The Foundation almost two years ago. It has grown to more than $500,000 with a goal of $2 million. The income from the endowment will provide much needed funding, in perpetuity, in support of the programs of The Burn Institute.

FOUNDATION HONORS LEGACY COUNCIL MEMBERS

Many of the amenities enjoyed by Rancho Santa Fe residents today exist because of the dedication, foresight and generosity of those who came before. Many of those people were honored at a reception on March 6th at The Inn … those who have made us aware of a gift or bequest to the Foundation at the end of their lifetimes, through their estate.

The Legacy Council was created to recognize these people who are responsible for the splendid library, beautiful garden club, Little League field and community center and many other community assets that we all have come to enjoy. Many of these gifts have had no restrictions on them, which enables the Foundation to utilize future income from these to address the most important needs of the community.

The Legacy Council of the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation acknowledges those individuals who plan to leave an indelible mark on the community through a planned gift:

THIRD ANNUAL FINANCIAL ADVISORS BREAKFAST

Held in October 2006, at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe. Dr. Arthur Laffer, Founder and Chairman of Laffer Associates, an economic research and consulting firm that provides investment-research services to institutional asset managers, now headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Laffer's economic acumen and influence in triggering a world-wide tax-cutting movement in the 1980s have earned him the distinction in many publications as "The Father of Supply-Side Economics." One of his earliest successes in shaping public policy was his involvement in Proposition 13, the groundbreaking California initiative that drastically cut property taxes in the state in 1978.

Dr. Laffer was a member of President Reagan's Economic Policy Advisory Board for both of his two terms (1981-1989).
