Legacy Council

Have you considered what your legacy will be to your community?

Since 1981, the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation has been the local vehicle for individuals and non-profit organizations alike to establish endowments which will continue to preserve the quality of life in our community.

Many of the amenities enjoyed by Rancho Santa Fe residents today exist because of the dedication, foresight and generosity of those who came before. It is not by chance that we enjoy a splendid library, a beautiful garden club, a Little League field and riding club and a community center. These are just a few of the long lasting results, legacies if you will, of Village residents particularly appreciative of Rancho Santa Fe and wanting only to make it better.

You are invited to join this tradition by adding your legacy to that of others who realize the importance of a permanent community endowment. The Legacy Council was created to recognize those special individuals who plan to make a gift at the end of their lifetimes, and to applaud today’s generous citizens who, like those who came before, will improve the lives of those who will come after.

A gift that never stops giving

The Foundation can help you establish a permanent charitable endowment tailored to your philanthropic goals. In time, your fund will generate more in grants than the amount originally used to establish it. Meanwhile, the value of the fund will increase as well. So many aspects of our community have come about as a result of the vision and generosity of our neighbors.

Because you are considering a legacy gift,
the Foundation offers many options:

You may name the Foundation as a charitable beneficiary in your will, specifying a certain sum, a percentage, or the residue of your estate. Guidelines may be established to ensure that your wishes for supporting the community are met in the future.
Choosing from a variety of other planned gifts such as charitable remainder or charitable lead trusts might be an option for you. This type of arrangement is ideal for gifting of appreciated assets. Generally they provide a current income tax deduction for the present value of the remainder committed to charity with no capital gains on the disposition of the appreciated assets. And there is no tax on the earnings of the trust. Naming the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation as the final beneficiary of the trust enables you to create your legacy to the community.

Life insurance may be used as a bequest instrument, also naming the Foundation as the beneficiary.

A gift of real estate may provide you with a means of using the value of your home or real property to create your legacy. Upon the acceptance and sale of your property, the Foundation will manage the proceeds in a fund established by you, that will keep on giving.

Vision to reality...

Whether your goal is to endow your annual gifts to the organization of choice, to memorialize your family’s life in the community or the life of a loved one, or simply to leave a lasting legacy, a planned gift to the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation will enable us to continue to meet the needs of the future.

Philanthropy is a learned behavior, and like other values, it is taught mainly by example. By joining with other members of the Legacy Council, your commitment to a charitable gift can assist others in making a similar decision.

You may be as specific as you wish...but no matter what you decide, the Foundation will carry on your intentions in perpetuity.
